I understand why people do not like religion, trust me I understand that one. I don't understand why people have this simmering hatred for God. They seem to think he is this being determined to make them miserable and wants them to be unhappy. I know that God is nothing like that and I want to know why people hate him.

ok mr. underpants, you want to know how I claim to know God? Don't get mad but I'm going to tell you a story from the bible there was a guy called Elijah who was hiding a cave and he wanted to talk to god. Thunder and earthquakes came and he listened but he never heard God. Then a soft breeze blew and in that he heard God. That is where I hear God. Before you start writing me off as a nutcase, understand that its now at audible voice. Its a voice inside me that lets me know I'm loved. That reassures me when I worried and guilts me when I've done wrong. I know it could be my mind. Believe me I've thought about it. But I hear this voice when my mind is racing. I know that Bible could be a lie, improbable but possible. Believing in God is not something you do with your brain but your heart. I do know God, a God that forgives a dumb girl for doing stupid things. A God thats always been there for me. I say I know him and I know him in the core of my being. I simply know. Its Faith.

They just don't know him. Ignorance is the major enemy of humans and knowledge is the way.

More often than not, I think, people who "hate God" -- and I agree that this is probably less prevalent than you imagine, as most non-believers wouldn't waste time hating something they don't believe in -- actually hate religion (or religious people, religous rituals, etc).
I mean, regardless of your personal beliefs, there's nothing quite like a self-satisfied, close-minded "believer" shoving unprovable theories down your throat and considering none in return to turn you off of the whole thing...
Btw: I too am interested in how you "know" that God is nothing like that. Do you go to the mall with him and stuff?
You can cite the Bible as your reason, but then the question becomes: How do you know the Bible is true? Because it says it is? All religious books say they're true. How do you know for sure THAT ONE is?
I mean, even if you subscribe to Christian beliefs and believe in God and Satan and talking snakes and all that, wouldn't it be possible (within that framework) that Satan planted the Bible and created organized religious ceremonies (all golden calves, btw) to (subtly) lead Christians down the wrong path? After all, it sure has led to a lot of intolerance, violence, bloodshed, and murder...
I'm just saying... I don't understand why Christians don't consider this possibility. If Satan is the "Father of Lies" and was basically given the Earth, then couldn't "the Greatest Story Ever Told" actually be the Greatest Lie of All...?"
Before you dismiss that idea outright, really think about it. And, if you cite quotes from the Bible (or you cite habitual beliefs and interpretations stemming from your belief in the Bible) as your reasons for believing the Bible is true... Well, stop and consider the circular logic of that for a moment. "I believe it because it tells me it's true!"
Even if you resort to the "it's a matter of faith" argument, how do you know that THAT faith is the true one?

You can't hate someone who does not exist. If you believe there is an all powerful being, why would you not blame him for the pain and suffering in the world? Well... If that is what you believe The Bible said the misfortunes are a blessing, and will make you more righteous. They will also help you to understand and help comfort another who goes through pain, then you will find comfort in easing the pain of another, that will be your blessing.
The bible also tells you to beware of great material gifts- they are what links you to the Devil. (I am paraphrasing) So if you live modestly and share any excess, you will be blessed by the comfort you give others.
I do not know any believers who actually practice this. Instead you see people bashing "God" for their life's challenges.

I think you're confused. What people hate is the fact that so many people claim that their beliefs and desires and interests are special because they're supported by some "god". Those claims are incredibly arrogant, and naturally get bad reactions from others (whether or not those others believe in gods).
To make it more clear, you might think about your own reaction to the religious claims of people who do not share your religion. If you're Christian, do you hate the Islamic "god"? If you're Muslim, do you hate the Christian one? (yes, I know they're supposed to be one and the same, but in fact there isn't one at all, and the practical problem remains).

Ever been to a Grimm's Fairy Tale Board? Me neither? Why? Because I know they're just stories. End of interest.
Ever wonder why so many atheists are here all the time, and why some of them seem to hate God?
Because they're afraid he might exist. Why bother otherwise?

Because some people doesn't agree with God. They forget he holds there last breath in his hand. He could just say no more and they die. People want to be saved but they want to do it on their own terms. They forget who is doing the saving.
St. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way , the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.

They hate what they cannot see. They hate out of fear of what they cannot see. The are controled by satan and they listen to his lies which will lead them to hell.
What they don't realize is that God will give them their hearts' desire if they live for him and obey His commandments, and accept His son Jesus as their savior, repenting of their sins, and invite Jesus into their hearts and lives.
Jesus paid the randsom for our sins with His life. All they have to do is ask Jesus to inter into their hearts and confess their sins, and repent of them, and God will be with them throughout their life helping them all the way. It won't be a bed of roses, but they wont have to go at life alone.

I don't understand where you get the idea that people hate god. There are some who really don't like religion...but they don't typically extend that to something such as a god...you can't really hate something if you don't believe in it anyway.

We live in a sin broken world. The natural tendency of a criminal is not to run to a policeman to be reformed but to run away. It takes grace to draw a person to God.

Unless you asked a God hater...which is rediculous because the reason things are shi tty in their lives is because they dont truly trust and believe in him. That everything that happens in their lives is what is suppose to be, that God is doing them a favor because it just shouldnt be because of a bad outcome. People need to learn to just go with how things flow in your life, that things are going to work out because God is going to work them out.

I think you're making the common mistake, wherein you think we atheists hate god. We don't hate god any more than we hate Santa Claus. We don't believe god exists.
I wish god and Santa both existed. But I know they don't. That's how this works.
