These days we have so many social networking sites, no one who is regular on web is oblivious to them. What is the impact of these sites on the mind of todays youth..it's a positive one or its on the other side of the number line?

I had a boyfriend, now deceased, who fit the description of a sociopath part of the time, and had integrity and kindness and tolerance the rest of the time. My primary source of description of a sociopath is the book, "The Sociopath Next Door" by Martha Stout, ph.d. The symptoms I saw were right in line with the sociopath in personal decisions about himself, such as drug abuse, alcohol abuse, smoking even though he had terminal Cronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and decisions about himself and his personal health and safety.
Yet, with regards to myself, my mother, and his friends, he would spare no effort to be of service. He was supportive, always positive, and truely affectionate.
Is there a term that better describes this dichotomy? I'm looking for a wholisitic view on his personality.

It's not that I don't enjoy being around people, but unless I have some reason to go out, it just doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather stay home and watch TV or go on the computer than go to the mall to hang out, or go to a club. Does that make me wierd? It's kinda affected my personality because I'm VERY shy, and even though I'm good looking, I've been on one date and I'm 20 years old.

I have...I mean..USED to have this friend (she wasn't really a friend, but she'd follow me around), and she has serious issues. Shes 13 and she thinks this 8 year old little kid is HOT. Not cute, but HOT. She even asked if she'll be able to marry the kid when they grow up. She'll be in college, and he'll probably be a freshman in high school. She is obsessive over him...Now when I think about it, it's creepy. Is it just me, or is she crazy?

*She doesn't like him as a little boy (like a brother). Once I asked her (jokingly) who she'd rather have physical contact with, and she asked if it could be someone younger...I think it's the little kid.

My first memory is of my 3rd birthday when I met my father for the first time, at least as far as I was concerned. He had left my mother and me when I was 3 months old to report for active duty in the U.S. Navy, and of course I didn't remember that. I have the most vivid memory that when I met him I took an instant dislike for him, an opinion which later turned out to be valid. I believe that little children often have a unique ability to see into the very souls of adults, and that it may be a survival mechanism of our species.

Hi there,

Anyone know if there is such a thing as the "not me" syndrome? I'm not sure if this is the proper term for it, but I mean "not me" as in..... "Most women over 45 are at risk for breast cancer? No, that won't happen to me." Or "Crime is on the rise? No, that won't happen to me." Or "Cops give a lot of tickets on this freeway. No, that won't happen to me."

What I am looking for is a psychological term that explains this phenomona (if there is such a term) or the term of why people chose to live in denial (think they are exempt for the statistics, etc..)?

We have recently repaired our fencing which was distroyed during a storm. About an hour ago a drunk driver ran through our fence and overturned in our yard. He and his male passenger are both hurt, to what extent I don't know yet. I ask the police if he had the drivers insurance card and was told the driver has no insurance. I am a bit upset that we now have to repair the fencing again and lawn. My neighbor said I should be more concerned about the people hurt than my fence. Now I feel a bit guilty but dang it Im still upset about my fence.
