I would never waste a moment of my life on worrying about a drunk driver. His friend, maybe, but the fence would definitely be my priority in that situation. A) he chose to drink and drive, B) his friend chose to ride with a drunk, so C) the fence gets my compassion. And you, of course.

You are not an uncaring person, you are a person who doesn't like their things destroyed by uncaring others. I am sorry for what has happened but thankfully no one was killed and you won't have that memory or vision everytime you look at that fence. There is a bright side even though you don't see it now but there could have been dead bodies. Your homeowners insurance should cover this and you may also be able to file some type of claim with your state since a drunk driver caused damages to you and your property. It something like a Crime Victims system but you would need to check with your local police department and see if it is available in your state. If not then request to be notified when the driver goes to court and ask that damages be considered by the judge as part of his punishment. Perhaps the judge will sentence him to hard labor and make him fix your fence with his own money and do the work himself. This would be better than letting his sorry butt sit in jail and us tax payers feed and house him. I do hope things work out for you soon. Good luck and God Bless!!!

Well, I would be upset about the fence too. You put a lot of work, money, time, and effort into fixing it the first time. Plus, as heartless as this sounds, he did it to himself. Now, if her were in critical condition I would be concerned but if he had a broken leg or ribs or something then no, I wouldn't be concerned about them at all. They shouldn't have been driving under the influence. I hope they are ok, but I hope that you can get your fence repaired. Even though they didn't have insurance I wonder if you could sue for the money?

There is nothing wrong with checking into the driver's insurance to cover your losses. You have nothing to feel guilty about.
As a caring person, I'm sure you are concerned for the well being of the driver and passenger. However, this guy was a drunk driver and I don't think it is right that because he has no insurance you will be stuck for the bill again. Go ahead and do your homework.
As for your neighbour he/she should stick his/her nose back into his own yard ...what if he/she had been put in this position?

I have very little compassion for a drunk driver. I'm actually glad that he hit the fence and didn't kill an innocent person.
Sorry about your fence, isn't there a law in your state about insurance? He should pay your fence AND landscaping of your yard, or you should threaten to sue. I'd try to have him pay for your fence before resorting to your homeowner's insurance, as is not worth it to have increased rates due to some irresponsible drunk kid (some insurances will go up if you make a claim)

Of course you're not an uncaring person. I mean, I'd still hope that the people were okay, but it doesn't mean you still can't worry about you're fence. The drunk driver is the one that broke the law.... and in doing so, he has to pay the consequences.... and for a new fence.

Nope. Drunk people reap what they sow when they get behind the wheel hammered. Nobody but them makes that choice. I'd be pissed too if some fool decided to take the chance of harming (KILLING) others and destroying my hard earned property. They deserve no sympathy. What if YOU had been standing in front of that fence?!
Perhaps the fence taught them a lesson. Perhaps your fence saved a life.
You have a right to be upset. You're normal. : )

Do you not have house insurance that will cover?
Yes, I understand you would be upset about the fence but, your neighor is right, think about the lives of the people first. You can always replace a fence.

Let the medical people be concerned about the crash victims, your feelings about them one way or the other doesn't help or hurt them. You have a right to your feelings of anger. Is it possible that your homeowners insurance would cover this...deductible? Even so, I'm sure you can sue the idiot who was driving drunk...just hope he has a job to pay you back. Hold him accountable and do not feel guilty about it. If he is in too bad of shape to sue, then you may not be able to get restitution.
