i would like a few opinions regarding energy market regulation in america and abroad, in particular whether you feel as i do that it is a good idea. while markets are risky and the organizations that trade energy will never be perfect, i believe that open markets are a better alternative to depending solely on governments and energy cartels to determine prices. however, these markets are vulnerable to corruption, as could be witnessed in california during the enron days. i am looking for different viewpoints, any and all opinions on the subject are welcome...

I am 13, just so you know. So today in my voice lesson, my singing teacher asked me how my vacation was. She is a Russian woman who is 39, and has a 17 year old daughter and is married. I told her what I did for Christmas and such, and asked her what she did. I am Russian, too, but Russian Orthodox. She said, "Well, we did not do much because we are Jewish and we don't celebrate Christmas." And then she told me how she celebrates Jewish holidays and such. All this time I thought she was Russian Orthodox like me. But she's not. I'm not anti-semetic in any way. My parents raised me to be a true Liberal, Democratic, Left-winged, Blue-blooded Russian born American. So, why do I feel differently about her? She doesn't even feel like the same person to me anymore.

Japan has a declining population (already), a very low birth rate, huge fiscal deficits with no sign of an end, and an enormous national debt of 170% GDP (compared to 65% GDP for the US). All the demographics only get MUCH worse, as within 50 years there will be 30% fewer people, ONLY ONE-HALF as many working age people, and far more retired seniors. And the articles don't go further out, but seems to me that that's when things REALLY start imploding.

Seems Japan is doomed. Any possibility that they are not? What exactly happens to Japan in coming decades?

If so, what do you attribute it to?

If not, what would you need to be at that peak of happiness?

Most people I know are convinced that a dystopian future will come true, due to global warming, overpopulation, etc.

I strongly believe that these threats are over-hyped and would like some benefits for being right.

Is there something mid-range (20-30 years or so) that I could do (like a future, but very long lasting) to get paid for being right?

I think the future will be amazing. But I'm sick of being chastised for this view and would like to benefit from it.

Some times something is bothering me, and I never show it but it kind of affects my judgement, which is bad and I know it is bad. It is like a weakness. It's about seeing others who have, or make, more money than me (I am a businessman and making money is just what I am supposed to do so when someone else makes more then it means that they are more performant than me), and it makes me (unwittingly) feel envious. I know it is wrong but that's the way it is and I am sure it is common for many, if not for everyone. I would like to know how to tackle this best, because I do not want to feel bad when someone makes more money than me (especially friends) but I would like to be glad for it. Let's remind again, that I never show it and I never act upon envy. I always try to be nice to people and help them if I can.

The most wise people have been so since an early age so it is nonsense to necessarily equate age with wisdom. In fact, age can be a burden to intelligence in quite a few people as the leisure of their youth, when they had time to consider the world as they wished, gives way to the compromises and stupid games of the 'real world'. As for youth and beauty, what kind of perverse world could think that looking fresh faced and attractive could be anything but desirable? Isn't it just envy that makes people attack the beautiful?
