I am a shy person and feel comfortable when I am alone or only around my closest friends. I tried to change to be more extroverted and socialize with different kinds of people. Sometimes, I feel satisfaction by doing that, but I realize at the end of the day, I am the same shy person by nature and by trying to be someone that I am not, I feel tired and more unstable emotionally. My question is, should I continue to change to improve myself? Can trying to hard to change will ruin myself as a person?

“Imagine a big mean looking person standing behind you with a gun…and he tells you that he is going to kill you unless you commit a horrific act…so, you go to your next door neighbors’ house, he hands you a machete and tells you to go kill them with it. What would you do?” He is not going to leave and come back, so you will not have but a minute or two to make up your mind, and there is nowhere to run or hide.

I got this question from the documentary "Shake Hands with the Devil,” regarding the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. I would greatly appreciate your (serious) answers. It will help me to resolve some feelings I am having after watching that documentary and pondering with that question.

Thank you in advance, and forgive me if this isn't appropriate for this catagory. There are only so many catagories and I had trouble deciding which one.

I am chivalrous. I hold the door open for everyone, men or women. I say sir and ma'am to people I am not really close to. I look people in the eyes when I talk to them. I respect everyone, even people I don't know. I do not judge people by first appearances or by what I hear, only by what I know, and even then I don't condemn them. I take responsibility for all my actions no matter what the consequences. I do not care what other people think of me, the people who know me know to believe about me. I do not spread rumors. I ignore the rumors about myself. I let older people ahead of me when waiting in line. I stop for everyone in the crosswalk. I try to help everyone in any way possible, and always turn down any reward offered. My real friends can talk to me with confidence, as can anyone else. The people I work with appreciate me, as I will do whatever I can to make their lives easier. Without trying to, or profiting from it, my employers love me. Am I old fashioned?

I was recently hospiltalized for suicidal thoughts, severe depression, and extreme anxiety in public. I've always had these diseases but they worsended when I tried to take Wellbutrin to control it. The psychiatrist I seen basically told me I have borderline personality disorder, bipolar, ADHD, and OCD. Well he did not exactly say this but I told him that I was diagnosed with ADHA when I was 16 (i'm 26 now) and told him I would feel more controlled if I were on Adderrol again. He also prescribed me Prozac for my depression and my 'OCD' as he put it. And finally I was prescribed Klonopin for my severe anxiety and insomnia. He had me fill out forms for the boderline and bipolar and I had every symptom of those as well. The medication is helping except the klonopin makes me sleepy and he wants me to take on after breakfast. My question: have you ever hear of or know anyone taking this combo of drugs and is it possible for one to have all the disorders mentioned previously? Any advice?

There's a dream I had when I was in elementary school that particularly stands out. In it, the ground is made of LEGO blocks (just the square and rectangular variety). They're spread out erratically, but in general don't form any significant valleys, hills, walls or structures. The sky is black, and the sky and the ground extend to the horizon. In the sky is a giant dark-orange swirling vortex that's black at the center. And in front of the center of the vortex there's a random number from one to 100. The number changes every few seconds, and if it turns 100, I will be sucked into the vortex and my consciousness will cease to exist. I'm running around absolutely terrified. and by terrified I mean the most unpleasant feeling I have ever experienced. This dream happened five times in a row the same night and then never again. Each time it ended with me being sucked in at the number 100, and the feeling of terror inscresing more, then I wake up even more scared than in the dream

"the idea of the Fed having to choose between hawk and dove policies during a negative supply shock (AS curve shifts upward) is silly. All the Fed has to do is shift the AS curve back to its original position, which would prevent both recession and inflation."
Do you agree? why or why not.

Recent articles in the Kansas City Star has shown that while retailers buy wholesale fuel at a standard temperature of 60 degrees, they can warm it up, causing it to expand. In this manner, they sell a much higher volume than they buy, plus once it gets into you tank, it cools back down reducing its volume. The result is you buy more fuel, more often.

In Sunday's KC Star, they also show how they get to keep the extra taxes paid on the expended fuel. Federal Highway Trust Fund taxes are collected at the wholesale level, not the retail, and an IRS loophole allows the stations to keep the extra tax money. In 1990, a study showed that of the tax money collected, less than 17% is actually spent on road repair and construction, but that is based on tax money actually received by the government. wonder how much less that figure would be when including what is never paid in?

So, what is the temperature of the fuel you bought recently?

Everyday of my life I have this fear that I just said something or did an action that hurt others. In the end, I always end up saying sorry to others. Most of the time, my friends said that I'm being sorry for nothing. But sometimes little action and/or some words can really hurt others without us realizing and I don't want that to happen.

I don't like hurting people and I'm very afraid of hurting other people's feelings. Because of this, sometimes people make use of me. I want to be nice to others but I don't want to be take advantage of.

I'm a 51 year old white male living in Indianapolis who has really screwed up. I have no job, $800 to my name. Very serious legal and financial problems. I'm about 2-3 months away from losing my house. Sometimes suicidal but still optomistic. My wife has a prescription drug addiction along with severe depression. She is also very reluctant to work. I still have reasonably good health but I seriously lack desire and passion for a meaningful life or vocation. Does anyone have any suggestions, without being mean, for what I should do to get myself out of this feeling of being worthless? I'm tired of being this way for the last 11 years or so. I feel that I can still do a lot of good if only someone would give me a chance.

It seems that people, both men and women, are emotionally driven to find a single mate, fall in love, and create a monogamous relationship. However, men also seem to have an instinctive drive to "spread their seed" so to speak, and sleep around. Now, scientifically speaking (I'm not asking about people's characters or personalities, or for spiritual answers, strictly on a biological/genetic/evolutionary scale), why is that? Those two drives seem to conflict, so I wonder, what is the purpose of having both?
