Find something to do.. volunteer for something that will get your mind off you! The more you think about you, the more negatives you are going to create. Overcoming them becomes a chore and a big hurdle if you continue to let them grow. Learn to extend yourself to others.. They (most of them) have greater problems than you imagine yourself to have.

As you are finding, your imagination has become your worst enemy. Get it under control!!

don't do anything other people are there to give you self esteem. I bet you got really cool hair. These people are kinda crude. Have a party and let your friends do the organizing. You will be surprised.

Go to a Group called DBT (dialetic behaviorial therapy). Look it up in your local county mental health services or health insurance(HMO) and make an appointment with a socialworker so she/he can refer you.

I have poor self-esteem too and this group or class helps.

Believe yourself and think you are doing everything is not worse than others. Actually, don't think others are doing better than you. Sometimes, they look kind of smart and confident but actually they are not so smart and confident as you think. Widen your vision, see more, read more, listen more and sing a song to the person you love. Good luck!
