I'm not talking about things I can't change, but important priorities like planning for a career. I feel like something is wrong if I don't make every day productive because I sometimes get stuck in a rut and fall behind. Sometimes I dread starting another day and wasting more time or having to do more work. At the same time, I don't want to be complacent and lulled into a false sense of security.

I am wondering, if you work at one, what it is like, what you do (specifics if you can), and possible salary. I really have been back and forth with possible career choices. A little over a hundred years ago, the ruling class of this country was still eradicating native peoples like they were rodents. A hundred fifty years the country tolerated the selling of other human beings and the physical abuse of them, to the point of death. In that same era, men were allowed to physically abuse and torture their own family members, without legal repercussion. A mere fifty years ago, educated minorities were seen as a threat, and were lynched, while law enforcement and the judiciary looked the other way.

Here is the question: Fifty, a hundred, two hundred years from now, what aspects of the culture are the people of this country going to look back on and wonder how we could be so unenlightened? Something that as a general culture we don't even question now...
