I am wondering, if you work at one, what it is like, what you do (specifics if you can), and possible salary. I really have been back and forth with possible career choices. I am a Sociology Major and a Spanish Minor. I really want to help people in any way that I can. Even though money is not the biggest issue, I just was wondering about how much I would possibly make. My heart feels like it belongs at an Adoption Agency. Please give me advice. Thank you

I commend you on your possible career choice, as well as following your heart. Its so easy to get caught into the money aspect of working that many people do not follow their passion.

I am not experienced in this subject- I wish I had more information for you. But I would think there would have to be some resources at your college that may help. Letting a counselor know of oyur interests may help- as well as your Soc. professor. they are usually good starts. You may want to look online for a local adoption assistance group, and go from there. Let them know you are a college student, interested in this type of work, and see if they can help you find some people who wouldnt mind a quick interview of sorts to ask about how they like their career, etc.

Best of luck to you!

Because it may depend upon where you are, you need to do research on the qualifications needed to become an adoption worker. Having a degree with a major in Sociology may not be enough. Where I live, someone would have to at least have a degree in Social Work (so they could have done a practicum somewhere like an adoption agency, for example), or a Masters of Social Work. It's great that you want to work in this field!!!

To begin, kudos to you for having a desire to help those in need. I've been working in the sociology field for about 5 years now, and I can hopefully shed some light on your questions. The amount of money you will be paid depends in the state you work in. I work in Nebraska, and the average salary here is around $24,000.00 to $26,000.00. Social work is definitely NOT a fast money maker, but you may find yourself feeling somewhat fulfilled. However, it's not all fulfilling all the time either. You may encounter some very difficult and heart breaking cases, especially when dealing with older children and teenagers.
Bless you for your willingness to give this field a try!
Good luck!

Well like most things, regardless of you very good qualificatioins, you have to FIND a job to apply for, then you have to PASS the interview and then you have to OFFERED a job,...

otherwise you will be wasting your time chasing after dreams....

Don't know how much you'll make, but if your heart feels like it belongs there, than that's what you'll be happiest doing.
