Hello people. Does anybody here know or recommend taking which classes or tips i should take, requirements or something like that? I've always been interested in psychology. I would appreciate serious answers from people who want to help. If a professional psychologist could answer my question that would be also greatly appreciated. I am new to this part of yahoo so i am sorry if i insulted anyone or did something wrong. Thank you for your time.

there are 2 different ways you can go into psychology. The first is becoming a liscenced psycholoGIST which is offered through graduate courses at college, this opens many doors to u such as working for the government doing profiling or working for a private practice. The harder route to go is the actually graduate Medical school (4 years of training in college +4 years med school) and then specializing as a psychaTRIST which is someone who makes BIG $$$. The training is obvioulsy longer and harder but it pays out in the end. You can also major or minor in psychology or sociology without being an actuall practicer of it, but the degree will help you get many other psych based or education jobs.

clinical psychology will come with the territory if you get your degrees in psych. and going to communtiy college doesnt matter i dont what the person below me was talking about a 2 year community college doesnt make you declare a major, so you go to com. college do 2 years of liberal arts and then switch into a universty for your bachelors. AND you can major in other things than psych to pursue the psych career path you can major in philosphoy music apreciation or whatever you and still get into a psycg grad program if you have the grades, you do need some kind of psych experience though so if you dont major in it id say at least minor

Clinical Psychology is one of the most competitive fields of any! It is more competitive than medical school. You must, of course, first get a Bachelor's degree in Psychology (4 years) and it must be from a good University. Don't go to community college, this will hurt you when it comes to graduate admissions. And you must have excellent scores on the GRE (Graduate Record Examination, scores of atleast 1100, 1200 or higher is better), GPA should be around 3.5 or above, you will need some research experience while you are an undegraduate student, and you must have strong letters of recommendation from your professors.

These are simply minimums to get into a PhD program in Clinical Psych. The average university Clinical Psych program accepts only about 10% of its applicants. That means if the University receives 100 applications from students wanting to get the PhD, the University only accepts 10 of them. So you can see, you have to be REALLY competitive academically or you have no chance.

Counseling Psych is a little less competitive, but still very difficult to get into. Many people want to become a psychologist, but for some it's just too difficult and they settle for a MSW (Master's in Social Work) or MA in Counseling.
