my definition of compassion is a sense of shared suffering, most often combined with a desire to alleviate or reduce such suffering; to show special kindness to those who suffer. Thus compassion is essentially empathy, though with a more active slant in that the compassionate person will seek to actually aid those they feel compassionate for.

I work in a very busy coffee shop in a business district. Considering the fact that I see the same people getting coffee 3,4,5 times a day, I wonder if these people ever get any work done at all. And if not, why do they expect everyone else to work their butts off to serve them?

Star Trek creator Mr. Gene Roddenberry R.I.P. had a future Earth based on a global community with no money or method of 'fair' exchange, because there was no need.

My question (above) is intended to illicit the groundwork for achieving Mr Roddenberry's prophetic vision.
