I set a timer. 45 minutes on, 15 minutes off. Unless I'm on a roll.

Race with time -- project a completion time that can be earlier than you expect. Put on some energetic music on the player (for me I'd put on some rock or metal) then begin immediately. I do smoke but when I have a time-sensitive assignment, I'd keep them away.

I just know that the faster I get it done, the better I feel about myself, and the less guilty I feel and irresponsible. Also, just knowing that it can really bite me in the *** if it's not completed is motivating enough.

...find something in the work that really catches your interest and anchor to those motivations...ie: if sports is your thing, then integrate 'play by play' into your efforts...
