A world without money would look like my world. I don't have any money and it's not so bad. Seriously, as to the subject of a form of exchange (money), I kind of suspect we're headed toward some kind of totally electronic exchange system. And, yes, I'd like that. But, as to the subject of a society without money (exchange system), I certainly can imagine it but reality doesn't lead me to believe that people will be emotionally or philosophically developed enough for quite awhile to live among each other in such a "noble", rational way. Many theorists have said, about this subject, that such a state of society would require some kind of total equalization, which most people today would not allow to happen even if their greedy little lives depended upon it. But, if we could equalize through universal robust health coupled with essential education, we might have that common foundation from which to launch a money-less society based on the individual placing private value on his own contributions to society rather than society placing value on an individual's contribution. It's like your mother always said, "Rupert, mind your OWN business. You just worry about your own painting and let Gertrude worry about HER own painting."

World Communism is the only thing that advocates that. It requires no ownership of things, except for disposable things like your food and some clothes. Everything else is "borrowed" from the state for your immediate needs.
What you're talking about can't happen in reality if you expect to keep things and own them.
It would be like being in the Army and going to the Motor Pool to check out a vehicle and finding only old, rusty WWII jeeps there, no brand new Hummers, because the Generals beat you there.
Then we also come to your (and everyone elses) ego. If the janitor next door to you in Beverly Hills (who also has a 2 acre split level home just like you) drives the same Lotus as you drive and you are a brain surgeon, how does your ego deal with the janitor who lives exactly like you and when vistors come they mistake his house for yours and then you have to tell them, no a janitor not a rocket scientist.
It's called personal worth and in a world like that personality and looks may win a girl over instead of a car. And if the Janitor is buff and young and Italian and you're small boned and short and slightly balding then he gets the girls because you both have a red Lotus!
Currently car is what wins a girl over and in the world of YOUR VALUE, which is what we have today, the brain surgeon gets the Red Lotus and the 2 Acre house and the Janitor drives a 15 year old pick up truck and lives in a apartment or a low income area.

Yeah. It's called Communism. Not the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, North Korea kind of Communism, which was actually Fascism (which is the actual opposite of Communism), but TRUE Communist societies such as the Amish, where everyone specializes in their own task and pitches in for their fellow neighbor, where there is no government and none needed, there is no money or form of currency and is not needed. Unfortunately, this kind of organization can't work on any society larger than a commune, and I believe this is a miracle of human nature. Normally any time there is anarchy human selfishness and lust for power will inspire someone to take over.

It's not possible now.
We have grown accustomed to a society that uses money. Bartering is a thing of the past except in third world nations that still have only tribal societies. I really don't think those exist in too many places any more. A money based society is better anyway. Imagine being payed by your boss with sheep or cattle and having to then slaughter the animals yourself or trade some of your sheep to have them slaughtered for you. Way too much involved in it. Cash is convenient and we love convenience!
