beer, cigarettes, and lottery tickets?

I work in an area that is very low income. I get gas at a station there every other day. I can not think of one time when someone wasn't in there buying one of these things, yet they drive a piece of crap car, and clearly have no money to speak of.

Socio-economics? I have been co-opted to a workplace 'workshop' (Unions and Management) on the subject which has the following aims:

1) To ensure a common understanding of the impact of the decommissioning programme and what can be done to address socio-economic concerns.
2) To exchange views and seek to agree a way forward through the development of a shared action and communication plan.
3) To explore issues around and opportunities for the socio-economic agenda.
4) To ensure all key parties are focused, as far as is practicable, on the same strategy.

Can anyone help me with the basics (what the subject means and the type of questions to ask) as I have no knowledge or experience in the subject?

My honey is out of town looking for work in Indiana... when I call, he's a big grouch, but he seems to be getting along just great with our friends (who he's staying with). He does all the things I want him to do at home, with them. He willingly spends time with them, has long talks with the wife, is attentive, helps out with their kids, stayed home today to take care of the wife b/c she wasn't feeling well (even though he's on a time crunch, which WOULDN'T have happened here at home), and so on and so forth. It's making me very upset, and I don't get it. He doesn't want to hear about it, and just blows me off when I call, even though I just want to touch base with him, and chit-chat about whatever. And, no, there isn't a chance that there's a thing with the wife, before anybody puts that out there... it's just irritating and hurtful that he's more attentive and patient with them than with his own family. I just need some advise... PLEASE NO BASHING THOUGH, seriously...Thanks All

(I know NOT every woman behave in this way but most of the ones I know are.) I'm just wondering why...
whenever they see single younger women, they immediately start inquiring like a CIA why don't you marry already, why don't you have kids already, is there something wrong with you??
Most of them are catholic but some aren't. And most of them are unhappy with their marriage and life.
Once I even said: if you don't like your marriage life why are you so eager I get one myself? I got no answer.
So I was wondering, this happens to you and why do you think they react like this?
I know there some man who reacts in this manner, but generally speaking are women.
What do you think?

I mean look it up before you talk! There are laws on welfare reform... President Clinton is responsible for that.... So, I guess my question is..... ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT...... what can be done to make the system better? Having mandatory lengths of time, etc... for EVERY STATE? Or is that impossible?

The way we interact with people around us or our reaction to the situations we confront in our day-to-day lives are based more on our experience and our interpretation of those experiences, rather than what we have been taught or told about by others!
