every year around this time, we seem to find many large wasp-like critturs slowly emerging from gawd knows where and crawling painfully around. They could be hornets but they are very slow and almost dead. What are they? We live in Cornwall

We've had some pretty bad weather where I live lately. I live by water, and most of it has frozen over. As we drive by a part of the river, I noticed that in between the ice there were patches of water. Floating around on these patches were ducks. This confuses me, I was always under the impression that ducks migrate.

And please don't give me the "that's why they fly in a V-formation" joke! Geese fly in a V-formation for drafting, duh. A link to a reputable source would also be apreciated.

I'm feeling a little neglected because no on answered my question about black ladybirds. I wanted to know why they were considered the evil cousin to the red ladybird?
