I'm feeling a little neglected because no on answered my question about black ladybirds. I wanted to know why they were considered the evil cousin to the red ladybird?

dear rachael, sorry to hear that you were feeling neglected and being the proverbial knight in shining armour that i am,I felt compelled to come to your aid.Although I have never heard of black ladybirds(or ladybugs as i know them)being referred to as the evil twin of the more popular red one's,my best guess is that the distinction would be related to the color black and little or no other reason.Black typically being associated with the dark side of most things and synominous with all things evil,at least in the minds of many.In fact whether red and yellow or black and yellow they are the same species with a different color variation, these particular colors are likely a defence mechanism to ward of predators.hope this helps answer both your question and assist you with your feelings of neglect.

They're not considered the evil cousin by farmers! They prey on scale insects, which do a lot of damage to crops like walnut and avocado in California.
One of the species' common names is twice-stabbed ladybird, for the two red spots. That's pretty evocative but not bad. Who said they were the evil cousin?

i looked it up and there is mythical belief that the color black ties into the thought of death and evil souls so that is why it is said that the black ladybird is an "evil" cousin of the red ladybird which is a symbol of love and peace
