The other day while shoveling snow I flopped down to take a break, and noticed a circular rainbow above me.

I had never seen this before. Does anyone know why a ring-shaped rainbow would appear as opposed to an arch?

We recently puchased a frost free freezer and want to know if it will hurt anything if we unplug it when we leave for Florida for up to 4 months this winter. The freezer is in our basement and will see temperatures of about 50 to 55 degrees F.

CSU have just released their predictions for the 2008 hurricane season and are predicting 13 names storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes, do you think this this is an accurate prediction?

The long term average is 9.6 names storms per year, 5.9 hurricanes and 2.3 major hurricanes.

This time last year they made their predictions for 2007 stating they beleived there would be 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes. On each count they were out by just one (actual activity being 15, 6 and 2).

What is the difference between snow and ice? I am not asking visible difference but how it is formed? What happens up there in the air that triggers a snow fall or an ice storm or just plain rain? I guess all need humid air.
