global warming is happening people who say its not are not very educated. if you look at heat indexes from 1000-1800 the only thing that effected heat was volcanoes erupting which would spike out the temperature, it was perfectly based on seismic activity, if you look at it from the mid 1800's the industrial revolution temps have spiked no longer according the regulatory planet movements but the co2 all of the industry has put in the air - which is A HUGE mountainous difference. Global warming, is happening, and its not going to change over night, even if everyone went green it would take a LONG TIME IF EVER for this planet to get back into its regulatory state of being based on seismic and volcanic activity. although temps have fluctuated in the past they have never fluctuate the way they have since the industrial revolution - not even when caldera volcano toba erupted some 2 million years ago.

BTW it has little to do with people driving cars, i mean its got some to do with it but its not why they call it global warming. remember all the the mills on the rivers, all of the "plants" they put off more damaging gasses than 10,000 cars.

look at the graphs of what volcano's have put out and see how the heat follows it to a tee, then look at what has happened since the industrial revolution and you can see the heat follows the emissions from humans to a tee.

they aren't trying to scare you, it is just how it is, its the honest truth but unfortunately people are too ignorant to try to keep this planet for future generations and just carry on until the problem is too big to be solved.

the real name is not "pollution" its global warming, peoples lives are going to be effected by everything that was thought to be good and industrious.

If global warming is caused by humans, maybe Mother Nature's way of changing the enviroment by warming it up is the solution to this problem. The Earth has been around for a very long time and has taken care of past problems without the help of humans. Since nature always tries to correct something that is out of balance, maybe this global warming problem is actually a solution that nature has come up with. Most people now say that humans are causing harm to the enviroment. And that global warming will be harmful to humans if we allow it to continue. If this is true, then global warming may make sense as a solution. Nature is changing the enviroment in order to reduce or get rid of these humans who are damaging the Earth as the human population has grown to the point where nature is no longer in balance. If we are the problem, then this global warming thing maybe is the Earth's best solution to the human caused problem. Any thoughts on this???

Real mostly caused by us. The scientific evidence is overwhelming. Don't take my word for it - read the links, particularly the first and last.

This is science and what counts is the data.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the vast majority of the scientific community, short and long.

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/412.php?lb=hmpg1&pnt=412&nid=&id=

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

It is obvious and prevalent (look at all the storm/hurricane activity emerging in recent years and droughts!...and although climate fluctuates it has never in history been this much of a variation between hot/cold cycles), but we need to work more on conservation and less on making some terribly expensive miracle technology to generate electricity or energy. Why? Corn for bio-diesel takes oil to grow in large amounts, natural gas is better but rare enough to not be as economic as petroleum, electricity can be generated by solar or wind but not in significant amounts (when it is in good amounts, it is most often made by polluting coal or petrol), hydrogen is a joke it takes loads of electricity to extract from water thus causing secondary level pollution......tidal energy seems somewhat promising but we don't have infrastructure to catch it in large amounts yet.

Making cars half the size they are would cut energy usage about in half as would use of trams and even buses (if supported by public vote) and so would traveling half as much. People who often regularly use only 1000 square feet of their homes have 2500+ square foot homes and about twice the energy bill. Huge pool water pumps use loads of energy where people should be sharing community pools.

This would also solve the problem of global warming being "a game to benefit the rich". On the contrary, smart conservation saves money even on the level of simple consumers.

If people were not so greedy we would not have half the problems we have with global warming. I personally have an energy bill of under $40 a month and use public transport for around 70% of my travel even though I own a car in excellent condition. And yet I do every hobby I love with these provisions...IE my quality of life in general does not decrease.

It's not a matter of opinion. The scientific evidence is very very strong that humans, through the combined effects of fossil fuel use and deforestation, are raising atmospheric CO2 levels, leading to altering the climate of the earth and global warming.

The first answerer is exactly right. It's not an opinion anymore than I have an opinion on whether or not gravity is real.

It's just true.

it is the biggest b***s*** story that science has come up with. the earth has always had periods of ranging heat and cold temperature levels. what the real problem is, is pollution. and because we keep putting more and more vehicles on the road the government and scientist say it is global warming to try to get people to stop driving all the cars. they give more scary scenarios to something that they say can happen but have no proof that it actually will or can happen. so that is what i think of global warming. call it by its real name----pollution
