The northern hemisphere but when the earth is also the farthest from the sun. When the earth is closest to the sun in the winter the north pole remains pointed away from the sun and the southern hemisphere is closest to the sun.

The northern hemisphere tilts toward the Sun on June 21st (and many days either side of that day as well). That is why the Sun is continuously above the horizon at the north pole during those times. The main reason for the warmth is because as the Sun appears higher up in the sky, more solar energy is absorbed over a given area, which in turn warms. During the respective Falls and Winters, the relatively low sun angle in the sky results in the incoming solar radiation being spread out over a larger area, thus less energy is absorbed over given area, and less heat is generated.

There are other factors as well, such as the fact that there is more land area over the northern hemisphere, which tends to heat and cool quicker than oceanic areas.

Due to the tilt in the earth's axis, when the north pole is facing the sun(summer),the south pole will be away from the sun(ie the south pole will be on the opposite side of the earth where sun's rays will not fall). So South pole and hence southern hemisphere will have winter.

The northern hemisphere of course.

The eccentricity of the earth's orbit only creates a 500 km difference, which is peanuts. Not enough to compensate for the tilt.
