We recently puchased a frost free freezer and want to know if it will hurt anything if we unplug it when we leave for Florida for up to 4 months this winter. The freezer is in our basement and will see temperatures of about 50 to 55 degrees F.

As long as you empty and clean it it will be fine. Don't forget to leave the door open to allow air to flow in , this will keep a fresh smell .

This is a bizarre question to ask. I'm going to assume you are asking whether it will be OK to leave frozen food in your freezer for 4 months after unplugging it.

No. No freezer I know of will maintain a frozen condition for more than a couple of days. Remove your food or leave it plugged in.

Actually freezers and fridges do NOT like to be turned off. Often it means having them serviced to have their freon recharged after they are turned off. Since you reciently purchased the freezer it will probably start back up, but only because it's new.

Of course the food all needs to be removed from it, and it should be left open so oders do not build up.
