I've always thought that .2 Fahrenheit equaled .1 Celsius on a thermometer. But when I do conversion charts, I get -17. Huh??

And what would .3 Fahrenheit equal in Celsius on a thermometer??

I am a 14 year old student working on a sciencefair project. I im 9th Grade Biology Honors. Our idea is to construct 3 different kinds of vegated roofs. We need to know what materials we should use and other details. Keep in mind, we are doing a science fair project. We need a small scale. We're not talking about an actual roof like on top of your house. We want to make a downsized roof model.

Thanks!

I think you can and here is my reason.

I have found in a certain state lottery that when the winning numbers are posted they fall within a certain range of number within their specific columns.

For example;

I have set up my Excel program to display 6 columns from 1 to 50 numbers.

When I plug in the winning numbers into these columns, each winning number for each column falls within a narrow range of numbers; such as;

column 1, winning number = 4
column 2, winning number = 10
column 2, winning number = 20
column 3, winning number = 30
column 4, winning number = 42
column 5, winning number = 49
Column 6, Red Ball, Totally all over the place.

When I graph these numbers and highlight them, they all fall within a small narrow range of the total amount of numbers available within each column, ususally 99% of the times and within 5 to 10 numbers.

Am I on to something here are am I totally nuts?

If we flash back to one hundred years ago people would of never thought any of this to be possible but only in science fiction. Flash forewording to now, what if we finally invent something that can be stored bigger on the inside like a 30 foot ladder fitting into a 3x3x3 cm box using alien technologies. Another good example would be a TARDIS (from "doctor who" where the inside is bigger than the outside) Could something like that ever be developed in the future? It would change storage of permanent data forever.

When you look at a bright light through a window (or lense), what causes that light to appear to give off a star-like glare?

I've been searching the internet for the answer, but I haven't found much because I am not quite sure what that phenomenon is called. And so far, all of the keywords I have tried using haven't provided much help.

The only thing I really know about it is that, in photography, if you take a picture of a bright light using a small aperture, you can capture this effect. However, I noticed that you can also observe this effect when looking at a bright light through a window (specifically a windshield).

I want to figure out how/why this happens because I am trying to work out an art project (involving glass panels) in which I may want to intentionally use this effect.

Any help would be appreciated. I think that perhaps microscopic imperfections in the glass may have something to do with it, but I am not sure.

Thanks!

Expelled is a movie starring Ben Stein about scientists who share scientific data that goes against the theory of evolution...

Such scientists that “speak up” (regardless of their religious affiliation, or lack there of) and share such data are getting fired, lose their tenure, are rejected for publication, and are ridiculed and ostracized for even sharing such observational data.

Here is the trailer for Expelled:
http://www.expelledthemovie.com/playground.php

And here is Richard Dawkins quote:
“As a scientist, I am pretty hostile to a rival doctrine”

“Science” is derived from the Latin word scientia, which means “knowledge”, and specifically refers to a system of developing explanations for what we observe in the world. When observations would suggest something that goes against our underlying assumptions, science is not hostile to such data and teaching, but always bends a knee to observational data, rejects explanations that don’t fit, and attempts to develop a new explanation based on observational data.

So, what has happened to science?
