At "Beyond Belief '07: Enlightenment 2.0" (http://thesciencenetwork.org/BeyondBelief2/) Prof. Peter Atkins made the case that, just as theology must step aside in view of the power of the scientific method, it is time for philosophy to do the same.
I have a lot of respect for Prof. Atkins. However, I am at heart both a philosopher and a scientist. Still, I do agree with him that much of philosophy is obfuscation, pessimism and just a damn nuisance!

I wonder what other scientists think of philosophy?

And to those scientists who are interested in philosophy: can you please point out those philosophers who are actually contributing usefully to human thought?

The only believable lie is one based in truth.

Science is based on the scientific method,.. a man made philosophy.

Any theory is an assumption based on a limited pool of facts.

all facts are merely if then statements, and very case sensitive.

No one has disproved a single Christian belief. They merely say that there is no reason to look in that direction, to the scientists. Then say Christians believe in stoning, and ignore the reasons for stoning,.. to all of the common public. (yet, God never endorsed stoning, the only time God was in government was when he had tribal leaders. before and after tribal leaders, God wasn't in the business of teaching people new ideas. When the people asked for a king,.. God warned them and walked away.)

My 9 year old son is always asking questions. Sometimes I can answer, sometimes I can't. Here is one that he asked several weeks ago. He wanted to know where the air goes when someone is born. He said "there are so many people and animals born all the time, what happens to all that air that their body takes up? I wasn't sure how to answer. If anyone has any intelligent answer that would be great. Please no smart a@# comments. Thanks

are you sick of shoveling do you hate the snow?
well my invention takes care of all that! under the pavement is a hole line of coils that is heated up using solar power energy! once it snows just turn it on and in a matter of minutes BAM! its gone :D once the snow melts it flows dow to the end of the drive way and goes down a drain so it isnt all icey and it is properly disposed of.its good for side walks driveways and porches safe to walk on and for kids and pets! (this is not a real product) just an idea!

Time in our sense is really an illusion! All is happening at once. There has to have always been something for there to be anything. If all began with big bang even, something made the big bang. Which means that time goes back infinitely (as there always was something)!!! If time goes back infinitely there could not be a present as it would take forever for it to become now and you can never wait forever so it can’t be now.

There for all is happening at once and time is an illusion!!!!!!!

What do you think? Does this make sense to you or am I just crazy? I actually kinda thought I had a break thourgh with this but everyone I tell it to just stares at me blankly :(

Some bottles were frozen solid in the freezer, some werent frozen at all. But as soon as we opened it, it would freeze from bottom to top and get maybe one drink. Also, we were in Iraq and the outside temp was anywhere from 110 - 140.
