I don't think so - elevators are usually located in elevator shafts that have an opening to the outside world .. i would assume that air can travel into and out of the elevator compartment... unless it's airtight - which I reallt TRULY doubt. Don't worry too much it's safe! :)

If an elevator you are occupying becomes stuck because of a power outage or other reason, the elevator will not fall and you will not run out of oxygen. If you are inside an elevator and it malfunctions: 1. Do not try to force the doors open or get out of the elevator on your own. 2. Use the telephone or alarm button in the elevator to notify Library Security or WKU Police. 3. Assist anyone in the elevator with you in remaining calm. 4. Once Security has been notified, someone will be dispatched to get you out of the elevator.

I wouldn't worry unless the elevator happened to be full of people. An elevator is typically not airtight, but since we exhale about as much volume of gas as we exhale, we would not be creating a negative pressure inside the elevator, which would cause it to draw in outside air. I believe with a full elevator which has no ventilation system, everyone would be gasping in a few.

Yes,but the chances are remote. There are vents in an elevator for fresh air.But in some cases, this is a one in a million possibility like the vents being clogged and not properly cleaned for long, ill ventillated liftways etc.Claustrophobia is altogether a different condition. It is morbid fear of confined spaces and can be treated with supervised medication. Most people suffer from one or other type of phobias. But with proper treatment such conditions are reversible.

Only if the elevator car is hermetically sealed. Most cars have vents in the floor sides or only casual seals on the door.

You are safe... now you can practice jumping just before the car stops

I am claustrophobic as well. I kinda of think they are not hermetically sealed or anything. I think you get air through the cracks and stuff. But I might go into hyperventilation or asthma attack and that would possibly kill me. So I take the stairs and escalators.

unless the elevator is vacume sealed... no... never ever. dont even worry about it theres about 2000gallons/sq,ft+ of air in the average elevator enough to supply up to 10 people with air for liek 8 days or somthing. im not sure if im absoloutly correect, but just thing about the WIDE OPEN SPACES on the ither side of the door

I would have to say NO the only way that would be possible is if there was fire all around you eatting the Oxygen.. Other then that a Elecator is not a 100% sealed in box there is always air..

since you are claustrophobic , you probably would hyperventilate,I am same way. i would think it would take hours and many days before a elevator looses oxygen, but it also depends on how many people are in there.
