k if you were in the middle of the dessert and you foud a backpack full of all the money in the world, and knowone was around to see you with that backpack, would you

It's not science, but it's a good question.

I would keep control of it, and would delegate the use of parts of it when I was confident it would be well used. For example, I would entrust some to World Vision, an organization which has already demonstrated an extraordinary ability to meet human needs (especially crisis needs) without damage to society or the human spirit. I specifically wouldn't put it into the hands of notoriously corrupt governments.

Al Gore wouldn't get a penny, but I would fund Planktos to fertilize the starving phytoplankton population, both to sequester carbon dioxide, and to support the foundation of the marine food chain. I would help reduce the economic impediments to the deployment of sensible technologies alternative to fossil fuels.

I would surround myself by advisors capable of scientifically and honestly and objectively evaluating facts, and resisting political pressure and fads. Al Gore need not apply.
