I know it has to do with friction and heat and what not, but I'm wondering about the color of light on this. See, I put two pieces of tape together, and, in the dark, I pulled them apart. They produced a blue band of light at the point where they were being pulled apart. Why is the color of that blue?

I am in 8th grade and yes I am still doing lame science fair topics. This year I am doing a project on how long dog food lasts until it molds. I have always been curious b/c when my dog doesn't eat all his food, then we just use it again. I want to see how long it takes for the molding process to begin. I can't find any thing for my research and I was hoping America could help me by giving me some advice or websights. Thank you!!!

I just read an article which mentions something 40,000 new microbes were found around hydrothermal vents off the coast of Oregon. Do you think it's possible these vents are constantly creating new life or do you think these are microbes that have been around and just haven't been discovered until recently?

This is my science fair project but I want to know if anybody did it or has experience with this. Please don't put what you THINK just what you know for sure. It's sort of like a survey.

The Katie Melua song, "Nine Million Bicycles"

We are 12 billion light-years from the edge,
That's a guess — no-one can ever say it's true,
But I know that I will always be with you

should be...

We are 13.7 billion light-years from the edge of the observable universe,
that's a good estimate with well-defined error bars,
Scientists say it's true, but acknowledge that it may be refined,
and with the available information, I predict that I will always be with you .

And Faith Hills, This kiss;

It' s the way you love me
It's a feeling like this
It's centrifugal motion
It's perpetual bliss
It's that pivotal moment
It's (ah) impossible
This kiss, this kiss

when there is no such thing as Centrifugal Motion.

And Rufus wainwright 'The Brightest of the Planets Is Mars'
FOOL!!! it's VENUS!!!

I think this is an urban myth, but my friend swears a nurse she knows told her it works and loads of medical type people do it.

The theory is, the speed camera cannot 'see' through undeveloped x-ray film placed over the car number plate.

The number plate is supposedly still visible to the naked eye, however, so if a human cop sees you he or she will not notice anything amiss.

My reason for thinking it is an urban myth is that if it was true, why don't we hear about people doing it? There are lots of people who would be lining up to take advantage of something like this if it was true.

Her argument to that is, how would ordinary people get undeveloped x-ray film, it's only available via medical channels and those folks are used to keeping their mouths shut!

If you have any facts, a web site, an informed opinion or just a good theory ~ please let me know.

I'd really like to win this one :-D

Please Note: I am NOT planning to try this, even if it is true!
