In math, when you divide fractions, why do you always have to invert the divisor? I know because it is a rule and if you don't your problem will turn out wrong: but why?
If you know that's really great because I'm really curious. Thank You!

The directions are to name the property shown. The property can either be communutative property OR associative property.

1.) 3 x ( 8 x 4 ) = ( 3 x 8 ) x 4

2.)3 x 8 = 8 x 3

3.) 4 + 7 = 7 + 4

4.) 8 + ( 9 + 7 ) = ( 8 + 9 ) + 7

ok there are the problems.. this is what I THINK the answers should be
1.) Associative Property

2.) Commutative Property

3.)Commutative Property

4.)Associative Property

Is it correct?

My teacher always talks about how to easily find out what numbers divide into other numbers, like adding the sum of the even and odds and finding out what that number is, which divides into the original number ... I don't know if that is correct, but is there any way to figure out how to do this with large numbers? I am looking for relations in perfect squares, radicals, etc. Thanks :)

I'm working on a take home quiz and so far I have 1 I'm not sure of. I have half of it done. I won't put the base but I want to make sure I combined it right. I'm thinking that it turns into a fraction because of the negative 3/4. Anyways....it's
-3/4 log (x+2) + log (2x-1)^1/2

I already know how to do the second half, it's just the first part with the -3/4 that I want to check! thanx!!!
