4(2s + 4) = 48
2s + 4 = 12
2s = 8
s = 4

Let's solve for s.

First off divide both sides by .4 to get

(2s+4)=4.8/.4=12
Now you have
2s+4=12

Subtract 4 from both sides
2s+4-4=12-4=8
2s=8

Now divide both sides by 2
s=8/2=4
so s=4

Do you see how easy it was when solving for s.

Let's solve for s.

First off divide both sides by .4 to get

(2s+4)=4.8/.4=12
Now you have
2s+4=12

Subtract 4 from both sides
2s+4-4=12-4=8
2s=8

Now divide both sides by 2
s=8/2=4
so s=4

Do you see how easy it was when solving for s.

solving for s, I'm assuming.

You want to get s by itself, so first divide both sides by .4 to get

(2s+4)=4.8/.4=12
now you have
2s+4=12
subtract 4 from both sides
2s+4-4=12-4=8
2s=8
now divide both sides by 2
s=8/2=4
so s=4

Order of operations first. Git rid of the ( ).
To do that, multiply everything inside the ( ) by 0.4
0.4*2=0.8s
0.4*4=1.6 so
0.8s+1.6=4.8
then subtract 1.6 from both sides so you get the s almost by itself.
0.8s=3.2
then divide both sides by .8 to get the s all by itself
s=4
Then check your answer by plugging in 4 for s and solving.
0.4(2*4+4)=4.8
Solve inside the ( ) first
2*4+4=12
multiply that by 0.4
0.4*12=4.8
it's that easy
