It helps if you draw a picture...
(8y+8)+(5y-3)=70
13y+5=70
13y=65
y=5

Plug in 5 for y for each angle

So,

well, lets say that the angle ADC is the biggest angle:
than angle ADC (70) would equal angle BDA (5y-3) plus angle CDB (8y+8), so:

70 = 5y-3 + 8y +8
70 = 13y +5
65 = 13y
y = 5

now you can find angle CDB by writing y as 5: 8y+8= 8*5+8=40+8= 48

and angle BDA : 5y-3= 5*5-3= 25-3 = 22

angle CDB + angle BDA = angle ADC = 70
so 8y+8 +5y-3 = 70
13y +5 = 70
13y = 65
y = 5
So angle CDB = 8(5) + 8 = 48 degrees
angle BDA = 5*5 -3 = 22 degrees

Well, if you draw out the figure, youll see that CDB + BDA = ADC

So, then you're left with.....

(8y + 8) + (5y - 3) = 70
13 y + 5 = 65
13y = 65
y = 5

CDB = 8y + 8 = 8(5) + 8 = 40 + 8 = 48
BDA = 5y - 3 = 5 (5) - 3 = 25 - 3 =22

48 + 22 = 70
