A box contains 5 white tags numbered 1 to 5, 5 red tags numbered from 1 to 5, and 5 green tags numbered from 1 to 5. If two tags are selected at random and without replacement what is the probability that:

a) both are the same number?
b) both are the same color?
c) they are consecutive numbers but of different colors?
d) they are consecutive numbers of the same color?

My initial guess for completing a & b is to take 5/15 x 4/14 + 5/15 x 4/14 + 5/15 x 4/14 = 0.2856, but I don't think this is completely correct, and I don't know what to do to differentiate between being the same color or the same number.

If you could please explain in more detail, I'd really appreciate it!

I need to understand why you get the answer y = +/- root(x^3 + 2x^2 + 2x + 4) My differential textbook does not explain this and I have forgotten my first year calculus, thanks.

when u do things like 9+10+3=3+9+10 you would say that is the commutative property of addition, but what would 4(3+8)=4(3)+4(8) be. i know it would be distributive but would it be the distributive property of addition or multiplication. thanks for any help!

So far I made it 1/2y=-x

Do I multiply the -x by the denominator of 1/2y? That would give me y=-2x/1 and my slope would be -2 over 1. Is that right? The only problem there seems to be no y intercept so I am a bit confused.
