For each positive interger n, define R(n) to be number of regions into which n lines, no two are parallel and no three of which intersect at the same point, divide the line.

Determine a forumla for R(n) and prove by induction it is true for all positive n integers...

I got a couple formulas but I don't know how to do the induction part...it's like...r(n) = n(n+1)/2 + 1 or r(n) = r(n-1) + n or r(n+1) = r(n) + n + 1...

which one do I use? how do I do the induction? thanks

I misinterpreted a simple equation, leading me to think of powers(exponents) that are not whole numbers. 2(2)(2)=8.
2(2)(2)(1)=8. So does the .5 mean nothing? Or mean nothing just in this case?

I took elementary algebra in school, and now independently I want to understand physics equations. What is the mathematical progression from elementary algebra to advanced calculus? I want my learning to be geared towards the end result, and I cannot seem to find a more technical description than; algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, trig, calc.. etcetera. What is the proper progression?
