V^2 = (7)^2 + 2(2)(18)

take the square root of both sides

V = sqrt(121)
V = 11

or V = -11 (also satisfies equation)

V squared = 121, therefore V= 11. To get this answer, you first square the U (7 x 7 = 49). Then you multiply A and S to get 36, then mutlipy that by 2 to give 72. Add the 72 to the 49 to get 121. If V squared = 121, then V is the square root of 121, which is 11. Hope you followed that.

You're given values for U, A & S. This is what the right hand side equals :

(7x7) + (2 x 2 x 18) = 121

121 is equal to V squared so get the square root of 121 which is 11.

u squared is 49
and
2 x a = 4
so
4 x s = 72
so then you do 72 + 49 = 121

OR

u squared is 49
and
a x s = 36
36 x 2 = 72
so
72 + 49 = 121

So...

v² = u² + 2as

We want to solve for v I assume?

Hence:

v = √(u² + 2as)

Plug in the numbers

v = √((7² + (2 x 2 x 18))
v = √(49 + 72)
v = √(121)
v = 11 (-11 also works, but positive value usually used in questions :) )

v^2=u^2+2as - General Formula

What Do we know- U=7 A=2 S=18

Substitue in our variable values

v^2=7^2+2(2)(18)

Simplify and you get

v^2=121

Take the square root of both sides so you are left with

v=11

v ² = u ² + 2 a s
v ² = 49 + 2 (2) (18)
v ² = 49 + 72
v ² = 121
v = 11 (taking + ve value for v)

2007-09-18 03:17:39 · answer #7 · answered by Como 7 · 1 0

u squared = 7x7= 49
2as = 2 x (2x18) = 72

so : v squared = 49+72
so : v squared = 121

so v=11

You have all the variables except v so you just need to plug them in.
v²=u²+2as
v²=7²+2(2)(18)
v²=49+72
v²=121
v=±11
