The word "quad" usually stands for 4 of some thing. An example would be quadruplets - 4 babies. So I am wondering why they use the word quadratic in Algebra (the Quadratic Equation) when the polynomial is only a second-degree polynomial, meaning the highest exponent is to the second power. Why is this?

I heard these numbers somewhere at school.

About 10% of the population is left-handed. About 10% of the population is gay. About 2% of the population is both gay and left-handed.

Does that mean being left-handed decreases your chances of being gay?

I'm only asking statistically I really don't care about your opinions on gays or lefties.

A piece of rope weighs 4 ounces per foor, and passes over a pulley.

On one end is suspended a weight, and on the other end is a weasel. The system is in equilibrium. The weight of the weasel in pounds is equal to weasel's mother's age in years.

Age of weasel's mother, plus age of weasel, = 4 years. Weasel's mother is tiwce as old as the weasel was, when the weasel's mother was one-half as old as the weasel was, when the weasel's mother was three thimes as old as weasel.

The weight of the rope, or weight at the end of the rope, is one-half as much as the difference in weight, and the weight plus the weight of the weasel.

How long is the rope?
You MUST explain your answer.

Tough question that took a while.
