A. tan * + cot * = sec*csc*
B. 1-2sin^2* = 2cos*-1
C. (cos * - sin*)^2 + 2sin*cos* = 1
D. cos^4* - sin^4* = cos^2* - sin^2*
E. cos^ 2* - sin^2* = 1-tan^2* / 1+tan^2*
F. (sec* - tan *)^2 = 1- sin* / 1+sin*
G.(tan * / 1- cot*) + (cot* / 1- tan*) = 1+tan* + cot*
H. (1+tan* / 1-tan*) = (cos* + sin* / cos* - sin*)
I. (sin* / csc* - 1) - (sin* / cot^2) = tan^2*

If I have a two-dimensional matrix, such that I know the sums of the rows and the columns, and that all the elements are in the set of integers [1..9], is there a simple way, other than guess-and-test, to determine each element? Let me set it up:

[a b]
[c d]

a + b = w, c + d = x, a + c = y, and b + d = z. a <> b, c <> d,
a <> c, and b <> d. If I know w, x, y, and z, how do I find a, b, c, and d?

And...go!

Show: Q[sqrt(3)] is a subfield of R (the real numbers).
I know to show this, the following must be true:
1) a + b is an element of Q
2) (a)(b) is an element of Q
3) Of is an element of Q
4) a + x = 0f has a solution in Q
5) 1f is an element of Q
6) if a is an element of Q and a is not equal to 0f, then the solution of (a)(x) =1f is in Q

I'm not really sure how to show any of these, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm trying to recall a "false proof" that I saw once a long time ago. First, what I mean by "false proof" is a seemingly logical set of statements that leads to an obviously false conclusion. The most famous example would be the proof that 2 = 1.

Years ago, I watched a professor develop a proof in class which resulted in "proving" that all angles were 60 degrees! But I can't remember the steps at all, not to mention where the fallacy lies. Has anyone seen this construction before?
