Well, lets start.
Let's write it like for long division: I don't have the right symbol, so I will use [ ] to indicate what is under the division symbol.
14.76 [ 4.1]
Now lets get rid of those pesky decimal things.
1476 [410.0]
Because 1476 is bigger than 410, the first digit is a 0.
Now, how many times does 1476 go into 4100?
Well, 3*1476 is 4428 -- that is too big.
2*1476 is 2952.
So that means that so far your answer is 0.2.
Now do 4100-2952.
That is 1148. Now for your next decimal place, add a 0 to make it 11480. How many times does 1476 go into 11480?
Well, 1476*7 is 10332. I think that is as close as we can get because 1476*8 is 11808.
So now your answer is 0.27 so far.
11480-10332=1148!
Now to find the next decimal place, add a 0 to the number to make it 11480 -- OH MY! Look! It is the same as the last number! That means from now on you will get 7 forever! Try it for a few times to test it out.
So your answer is 0.2777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 etc.
You can write it as 0.2778 or 0.27 with a bar over the 7.
So here is your plan:
1) Write it for long division.
2) get rid of pesky decimals.
3) Find the numbers for each place one at a time.
Any more questions?

using a calculator is not always the option..... 14.76 goes under the division sign an 4.1 goes on the outside..... now move the decimal of 4.1 to be 41 and do the same for 147.6 ......ask yourself how many times does 4 go into 14 .....about 3... try 3 times 41 and see if it is too high....you get 123 .... now subtract 147-123 and bring down the next number leaving 246.... ask again how many times does 4 go into 24....try 6 remember to bring up the decimal from the problem leaving 3.6.

If u do it by hand instead of calculator, do 4100 divided by 1476 (long division), then move the decimal places back.
