No.
Take away 4y from each side and you get 2y+2=23
Take away 2 from each side and you have 2y=21
Therefore y=21/2 or 10.5

2006-10-04 13:56:12 · answer #1 · answered by Blue Jean 6 · 0 0

No, ''0'' is not a solution of this equation. See below for the solution.

6y + 2 = 23 + 4y

6y - 4y = 23 - 2

2y = 21

Answer => y = 21/2

Verification:

6(21/2) + 2 = 23 + 4(21/2)

126/2 + 2 = 23 + 84/2

63 + 2 = 23 + 42

65 = 65

Nope. If y = 0 then then equation is
6(0)+2 = 23+4(0)
which becomes
0+2 = 23+0
2 = 23

and obviously, 2 isn't equal to 23.

NO. if you put in a zero for the y you would get 2=23

what you should do is first subtract 4y from both sides

2y+2=23, now subtract 2 and get 2y=21, and finally divide by2

y=10.5

2006-10-04 14:25:59 · answer #4 · answered by mom 7 · 0 0

6y + 2 = 23 + 4y
6y - 4y = 23 - 2
2y = 21
y = 21/2

Not quite...
If you put 0 for y, then you get the following:
(6*0)+2=23+(4*0)
0+2=23+0
2=23
Oh oh! That can't be!
In order to solve this kind of problem, you first want to get your variables on one side and your numbers on the other. Here is an example that is similar:
4x+4=16+2x
First, let's subtract 2x from both sides.
4x-2x+4=16+2x-2x
Now simplify.
2x+4=16
Now let's put the plain numbers on the same side by subtracting 4 from both sides.
2x+4-4=16-4
Now simplify.
2x=12
Now to get the x by itself, we have to divide both sides by 2.
2x/2=12/2
now simplify.
x=6

If you follow the same process with your problem, you'll get the answer in no time!

um no becasue if you plug it in:

6(0) + 2 = 23 + 4(0)

0+2=23+0
2=23 not where i come from :) good luck w/ the rest of your hw!

y = 21/2

Try your solution in the equation, to see if it is true.

6*0+2=23+4*0
2=23
As you can see, this is false.

2006-10-04 13:55:53 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

definitely no, because if you put y = 0 then the equation becomes 2 = 23 which is impossible
