Im halfway through to get my BS in Mechanical Engineering. My main focus would be The Automotive industry. But I seriously don't know what's out there waiting for me, is there anyone in here who is a mechanical engineering that can give me some aid to visualize the real deal. I have started to question whether i still want to be an engineer, I just keep losing my motivation :(

is there any hope for me: i have a 2.8 GPA and soon will be attending a Cal State University... is there still a bright future waiting for me? or not quite?...

seriuous answers will be greatly appreciated :)

I mean if the car battery is powerful enough to power a cigarrette lighter,or a handphone charger, why cant it power other devices? i used to think these batteries had a lot of power. I may have a concept here, where a dynamo is run on the friction of the car wheel and the energy is loaded on a whole bunch of capasitors, and a whole load of transistors to supply a steady electric current that can provide enough power for a laptop. What do you guys think about the concept? is it Possible or Not?

I have always wanted to know the answer to this question, perhaps some of you engineers or builders out there can answer it. When building a very large or tall building, cranes are often perched on top. How do they get the crane up there and how do they move it to the top of each level as it gets higher. More importantly, how do they get the crane down once the building has finished? It can't be from another crane as none would be that tall....

If you lower the current in a diode from say, 1A to .5A (not all the way off) the excess carriers eventually get reduced. What is this process called? recovery? width reduction? How long does this take...transit time? or is it some other phrase?

It doesn't use gas, costs $10,000 for the car, $16,000 for the minivan, has a 70 pound aluminum compressed air engine, goes 68 mph, has a 129 mile range, and cost less than $2.00 to charge the carbon fiber air tanks up to 4300(?) psi. You can get a pv panel to charge it up in the parking lot if it is sunny.

I have to design a model car that can follow a maze constructed from metallic tape stuck to the floor. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how i could detect the foil tape so that my car won't cross any of the "walls" of the maze. A method to detect the foil tape needs to be selected with the reasons for the choice. The car will be controlled by an eight bit microcontroller.
