For example, you have a stand-alone room fan with three speeds - low, medium, high. It seems that often the fan switch will go from "off" to "high", then "medium", then "low". This seems counter-intuitive, and also a waste of energy if you just want the fan to be on the low setting.

In a car, you never see this design on the blower knob for the air conditioner. That always goes from low to medium to high, as one would expect.

I am currently working with an immersion heater and I am worried about using a too powerful heater and causing the water around the heater to flash boil thus allowing the heater to burn out due to lack of conduction to the water because of the air gap. I had heard that this was possible, but have never seen it in practice. Any help would be great. Thanks

There is a radio-controlled plane I want to buy as a gift. There are two to choose from: one with 49 MHz and one with 27 MHz. Which one is better?

Since I have no idea what a MHz is (mega hertz???) can you please explain that too? Both are the same price and contain the same accessories, which is why I'm confused as to which one is better.

The web is full of web pages stating that Windmills in Ireland turn the wrong direction from every other Windmill in the world.
Three questions:
1) Is this true
2) Why should it matter which direction since helicopters in Russia turn a different way from the others but still fly..
3) if your Desk Fan was a Windmill, which direction would it turn?
(if onfused this is the opposite side of when you turn it on)

it is a 3phase 240volt system
would settle for single phase to destination
i figured 3/0 wire 15ft up the pole the 4/0 triplex to destination. thought i'd atleast get 100 amp.
been told it could be done without stepping up then back down with transformer.
