There is some studies that have linked cancer in young children with living close to power lines. The magnetic field, not the electric field being the issue. I haven't ever seen absolute proof of this and, of course the power companies dispute it.

"They say" no, but you never know. Electricity running through a wire generates a magnetic field around it. How much that will affect you is probably in dispute. Personally I couldn't stand the buzzing noise.

If you are thinking about buying a house that is near high tension wires don't. People's fear of it will hurt your resale regardless of whether they are dangerous or not.
