Well John, let's say during military operations one of our carriers started with speeds of "over 40 knots" This has risen by stages to 45 knots then to its current level of about 50 knots, however during said operations, the speed readout was turned off for security reasons, the actual true speed is a military secret, but certainly is much faster of that we can ever guess. Considering one knot is = 1.15077945 miles.
Following is an approximate speed of some of our carriers.
Enterprise 33.6 knots after last refit
Nimitz 31.5 knots

Officially the navy admits to over 30 knots. The actual top speed is not a published fact.
