I hear / see questions about the Meteor shower that is supposed to happen tonight.
I'm in the middle of the Texas panhandle. Which direction should I look to see any stellar action? - And how long should I be able to see this "action"?

The other night, in the midst of Beijings polluted air, I caught a good glimpse of what I thought was a shooting star, or a meteor. It was orange, huge, and had brown, glitter-like sparks coming from it. I'm just curious as to what it actually was, from a scientific point of view.

Don't shoot this down as a stupid question. Yes, I know they are out mid august every year, but last year they continued after the main one for a while.
My main question is, will there still be some meteors next weekend? I have an event to be at where it would be nice to go see them with my group.
