Is that Bill Haley's comet? I believe you are talking about Halley's comet, which comes around every 76 years. In general, comets were thought to bring death or some great misfortune. In 1910, the earth passed through the tail of Halley's comet. There was an article that phosgene was found in the gases in the tail, and there was a scare that the earth population would die from phosgene poisoning (it is a war gas).

Well, it's 1910 visit famously coincided with the death of Mark Twain (and in 1835 with his birth). And its appearances (along with those of other comets) throughout history have frequently been seen as ill omens. But bringing death?

Not so much.

I've never heard of it bringing death. I know that Hale-Bopp Comet brought some death to that wacky cult though...
