To me it seems like it is a very real possibility. We are here so why is it so far fetched that they may exist? We are continuesly finding new planets as our technology advances and we have even found proof of dried river beds on planets with bacteria(dead) imbeded in the rocks. There are so many different solar systems out there and science is realizing exactly how small of a fraction our solar system is in compairson to the entire universe. So why is their possible existance so criticized and considered "crazy"? Is it just me or does anyone agree? Why or why not??

By now almost everyone knows that if you have access to a minimum of 4 GPS satellites (in 3 dimensions you need 4 satellites) then one can determine their latitude, longitude and altitude anywhere on the globe.

So the question is, how does a GPS satellite know its position?

Note: No wikipedia, google, yahoo etc., answer in your own words.

Below are two claims, one from science; one from the Bible:

Claima A: Star survey reaches 70 sextillion
That's the total number of stars in the known universe, according to a study by Australian astronomers. It's also about 10 times as many stars as grains of sand on all the world's beaches and deserts. !!!!

CLAIM 2: Psalm 147: 4
He (God) telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

If both claims are correct (which I believe), what value can we put on the IQ of God who, it is said, knows both the number and names of all the 70 sextillion+ stars in the universe? How many computers can do that job?

Science is about facts. Proving things. It has nothing to do with the environment so scientists can not be green or interested in the environment? Do you agree.?

I'd like to find out more about a particular asteroid, more than what i found on Wiki. Links to useful sites and/or emails are especially useful, because there isn't a well developed astronomy community around here.

I am a linguistics student, and for fun I just read 'Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence' which was edited by Carl Sagan. I liked how it approached the hypothetical subject with a scientific rigor, but was really fascinated by the references to this possible bridge language "LINCOS" that was mentioned a few times, but never fully explained.

I would really be interested in seeing how this language works, or reading any books about it that could be recommended.

thanks
