Bacteria grow very quickly.
They reproduce about every 20 minutes.

It has been estimated that if unlimited space and food were avaliable for a single bacterium, after 2 days of reproduction there would be a mass about 4000 times that of the Earth.

yeah right!! anyone with me?

I just watched a show on the History Channel (I think) about the 2012 Doomsday predictions. I had never even heard of such a prediction outside of the Bible, but the show did list several sources for the reasoning behind the demise of the Earth around that time.

I am most interested in the Scientific basis for the theory. It stated in that program that in the year 2012 that the Earth and Sun will be at the center of the Milky Way, and will cross over the universe's "equator" and, this change will force the Earth to change the magnetic polarity of our North and South Poles. (North pole will register South, and visa versa). This monumental change would create widespread havock on our planet. Causing worldwide mass extinctions, volcano's, and earthquakes. (They stated that the planet has in fact changed its magnetic polarity before, 800 million years ago).

It was an eye opening program to watch. Any thoughts?!

They are launching a camera filled space probe next year, so that we can 'google search' the planets and stars, way beyond even the Hubble Space Craft now. The news I saw said it would be like looking at Google Earth, but in outer space, starting in 2015. I'm so excited, and lucky I'm only 55 years old, so I will most likely still be alive when this happens. My family lives to their '90's. I can't wait till this happens.

I sometimes wonder what created the Universe...and what existed before it? Has the universe ALWAYS existed? How is that possible? This is mind boggling.

what happened before the big Bang? how did the matter get to where it is? if the matter always existed, then what happened during the infinite amount of time before the big bang?

i absolutly refuse to accept that somethingness can be created from nothingness, and dont use god to answer the question either

what was the premise and argument or proof that led to such an assumtion/conclusion.

not to insult anyone's work or carreer etc..
but I hardly believe scientists (or anyone) know why the universe exsists, or from whence it came other than an 'arbitrary' big bang concept etc...
infact, I hear of findings of many 'non local' anomalies as the study of science deepens, (as in quantum mechanics as only an example)

so how then should we go about casting such limits?

please tell me their grounds or basis for this.
thanks.

All the other planets and stars have a cool scientific name! Why can't our moon have a special name?

Ok Prove Science wrong with your obvious all knowing intelligence that you get from Fox News.Steel melts at 2777 degrees Fahrenheit, but jet fuel burns at only 1517 degrees. Was this special fuel in these planes?? Even if the impact of the planes knocked off the protective fire safe foam the steel would have never melted. Period. You can even check this info.

I've always wondered why our moon doesn't have a name, like all the other moons. What makes our moon so special that it's called "the moon"?
