Zipping outward into our sector of the galaxy? How many stars (and presumeably solar systems) have they reached? Its been 110 years, so is that a spiral shaped band streaming out in concentric shells in all directions at once, or a cone shape, or what. We are anouncing our presence to the whole galaxy for better or worse in the form of radio waves and high energy microwaves. How many of our neighboring star systems have we notified?

My question is this...for each pound you want to launch into space and escape earth's influence....how much thrust from the SRB's or Saturn 5 is required?

Thanks for your help, this question is driving me crazy!!!

When you grasp how mind-boggingly big it is...I mean even our solar system. If you drew a few dots on a piece of paper, representing the sun and planets, the next star, on that scale, would be a few thousand miles away...doesn't this ever freak you out?
