In some Ancient Egyptian wall carvings. There are sort of detailed immages of the Suns rays as waves. This was not supposed to be known about until the 16th century. When experiments in Europe were done to findout what light is and what it's made of.

I've looked into some Astronomy books and I can't remember ever reading why this is so. How can we possibly have a view of our position in the Galaxy we are supposed to be embedded in. If routine Solar System travel is not yet humanly possible.Never mind Inter Galactic space travel ?

It's not difficult kids. The phases of the moon are purely due to what parts of the moon are illuminated by the sun.

The sun always half illuminates the moon, just like night and day on Earth. When you see a cresecent moon, and only see a "fingernail" of it, the remaining part that is illuminated is on the other side of the moon.

When its a half moon, the other bit of the illuminated half is round the other side

When its a full moon, the sun is shining full on the face we see. The back of the moon from us will be dark and in its nightime.

When the moon is new, the reverse side of the moon is illuminated and our side is dark, so we don;t see it.

If you looked back at the earth from the moon it would show the same phases in exactly the same way.

My goodness what do they teach you at school.

Will mankind one day, without the net expenditure of energy, be able to restore the sun to its full youthfulness even after it has died of old age? Or, put more simply: How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased?

Hi im only a teenager but i really like astronomy. I have a galileo FS-80 reflector. I see only stars or bright light, nothing very detailed. I have a planetarium hooked up to my computer. Can anyone tell me how I could be able to see more detailed things, besides buying another telescope. And yes I do have everything focused, and i have the lenses off. No trees are in the way. I have a 3x barlow lense, 20mm lense, 6.8 to 16mm zoom lense and tye 1.5x erecting eyepiece. I live in New Jersey where you can see a fair amount of stars. I can't look at any planets for a long time or the moon because they are all by the Sun. Except neptune, Pluto which is still a planet to me and Uranus which I no I will not be able to see. Please help me. I will appreciate it!
Thanks! : )

have you ever thought of the size of an ant and said that ant will only ever know my backyard? I mean the size of the ant is so small that it will only ever go around my backyard in its life...for example. Just after your thoughts on the size of humans. If you could imagine zooming out of the earth an infinate amount of times what do you think you would see? Im religious and really dont believe there are other life forms out there but its like how small and insignificant are we when compared to the size of the universe...

ok so on saturday i was watching kill bill on tv and i turend it off and was looking out the window i was in the sunroom). i started to look at a bright blue star. it was blinking which i no is normal because it is the reflection of light off our atmosphere, but then after i looked at it a while it started movie iractically. it was very far away so it wasent a plane or anything. sometimes it looked like it was jumping and "writting in cursive. i looked at another star to make sure it wasent my eyes. i stared at it for a while and it kept on moving all around. im not sure what this is. and if people are just gonna make fun of me saying im a wierdo with aliens dont. its crazy to think we are the only lifeforms out there. but still im willing to belive anything scientific or theory. please help.

Well, ot doesnt, does it? If it was possible to fly a spaceship in a straight line (but avoiding planets etc) what would happen. If it could fly without time limit and at speeds that are faster than science can express, where would that take the spaceship? Dont give an answer saying space is a circle, because then I will ask....what is outside of the circle. If you say heaven, then where does heaven end. And if you say it has no ending, then just think about that. Just think. The enormity of it all is simply mindblowing

I've been watching the Shuttle and ISS orbit for years now, it's a hobbie of mine. One thing eludes me; Why do they zigzag North and South while they orbit?
I've asked NASA but they must be too busy to answer.

An answer for an answer. i.e. STS-115. STS stands for, Space Transportation System.

Thank you,
Loser
