I'm about ready to get a 10 inch scope, and I am fond of Nebulas. So.. I'd be pretty cool to know.

What are the most enjoyable to observe?

Thanks.

Alright, just had my Calc II final today, and there were two questions I wasn't too sure of.

The first: ∫ ln(x)/(x^(1/2)) on the interval of 0 to 1 - does it converge? I'm fairly certain that l'hopitals' doesn't work here, as plugging in 0 would give negative infinity over 0. If it does converge, the definite integral should be around -4 if I did my math correctly.

The second problem: does the sequence (1 + 3/n)^2n converge? If so, what value does it converge to? I wasn't sure how to approach this one, though I figured that the number in the parenthesis is always going to be > 1, therefore raising it to an increasing power will give a number that doesn't converge...although as the sequence continues on it will head towards 1... heh I think I might have answered my own question there, I must've been thinking of series while doing the problem at first.

Which of the following is the correct formula for the element when in its natural state?
1) H

Water is a polar molecule because:
1) the one Oxygen has more pull on the electrons than the Hydrogens.
2) the single Oxgen atom is larger than the two Hydrogen atoms combined.
3) the one Oxygen has less pull on the electrons than the Hydrogens

Multiple bonds form because each atom in a molecule needs more than one electron to form an octet.

At "Beyond Belief '07: Enlightenment 2.0" (http://thesciencenetwork.org/BeyondBelief2/) Prof. Peter Atkins made the case that, just as theology must step aside in view of the power of the scientific method, it is time for philosophy to do the same.
I have a lot of respect for Prof. Atkins. However, I am at heart both a philosopher and a scientist. Still, I do agree with him that much of philosophy is obfuscation, pessimism and just a damn nuisance!

I wonder what other scientists think of philosophy?

And to those scientists who are interested in philosophy: can you please point out those philosophers who are actually contributing usefully to human thought?

As an example, could you guys give me an explanation as to **how** you would get the answer for the point (-100, 100)???

Recently I was checking out an electrical failure at a friend's house and put a meter on the output of each of the breakers to see if failure had occurred in one, even tho they were not tripped. I was amazed to see that one of the two sides of the power read over 123 volts to neutral and the other read just at 120 volts.- American "110/220" house power. Appliances must work within a 110-125 range measured to ground but I expected the legs to be almost identical. I admit I haven't measured a bunch of them, so I ask here. [I contacted TXU Electric, but under deregulated power in Texas, they won't answer it referring it over to Oncor, the spun off power delivery company.]

North and South have Poles and are relativity fixed as being top and bottom of the globe, but East and West have no such markers, so how can we determine which parts of Earth are East (Japan/China etc) and which are West (USA) on a constantly spinning circular object?

I expect it has something to do with the rising/setting of the Sun, but this happens all over the planet, so how exactly are East and West defined?

can anyone help?? i cant get the LS to equal the RS :S
also, a slightly more difficult identity, i was having trouble:
