One formula looks simple enough to be re-typed here (the rest of them formulas are hopeless)
S = - Σ Pi lnPi

Can you tell me at least what this Σ thingie means?

For example if you switched your house from incandescent to compact fluorescent lighting then your electric bill will obviously be decreased. However, because each bulb is no longer transferring 80% of its power to heat wouldn't your heating bill increase by approximately the same margin as you just decreased the electric?

Just something that has always bothered me and restrained me from using financial reasons for making the switch. Also I am aware that this is only a factor during the winter and in colder enviroments. Thoughts?

f(x,y)= x+y subject to the constraint 2x^2+y^2=2

wha tis the exact value for the maximum

I can find all the derivatives and end up with 1=4*lambda*x
and 1=2*lambda*y

where do I go from here?

chem enthalpy change?
Sadly, I have no idea how to do this problem. I have one more like it and an explanation in "idiots" terms would be great, but just an answer would be fine too...

PCl3(g) + 1/2O2(g) -----> Cl3PO(g) (delta)Hrxn= -286kJ

P4(s) + 6 Cl2(g) -----> 4PCl3(g) (delta)Hrxn=-1226kJ

(delta)Hf [P4O10(s)] = -2967kJ/mol

(delta)Hf[PCl5(g)]= -84kJ/mol

_________________________... Calculate the enthalpy change for the reaction: P4O10(s) + 6 PCl5(g) -----> 10 Cl3PO(g)

The numbers after the letters (eg, H2O2) are the subscripts...the numbers before (2 H...) are the regular numbers. Any help would be appreciated...

First I'm a Creationist because as a believer in a Divine Creator I accept that the Old Testament (Written and Oral Torah) are completely true and the word of G-d in both its deeper hidden meanings (yet to be discovered) and it's known meanings (already discovered by humans). I'm Jewish and accept the tenants of my religion without reservation even though I don't practice all aspects of my religion such as eating non Kosher food. My husband who is currently being trained in Infantry with the US Army and is the bravest man in the world (MY OPINION!!) and soon to be a father of the cutest little boy in the world (lol lol) doesn't have an opinion on Evolutionary Theory. I'm currently taking Biology and College Algebra (precalculus class) at a Community College. As a future Scientist and Mathematician (I love Math!! almost as much as my husband!!) I see Evolutionary Theory as some sort of voodoo that doesn't work and doesn't seem to lead to any practical applications.

Okay, these questions are on something I have to turn in tommorow, so I'm pretty desperate for answers. If you help me answer these and explain the process (as thoroughly and on my level (11th grade) as possible) I'll choose your answer as the best.

After calculating the percent composition of silicon dioxide, answer these questions:

1. What mass of silicon dioxide would contain 25g oxygen?

2. How many moles of silicon dioxide would contain 25g oxygen?

3. How many molecules of silicon dioxide would contain 25 g of oxygen?

I'm concerned about getting the answers, but EVEN MORE concerned about understanding HOW to get the answers!

Thanks!
