They are termed carbohydrates, regardless of size.

carbo(carbon, C)hydrate(water, H2O)...easy to remember that way, isn't it? :-))

All sugars not just poylsaccarides have the 1:2:1 ratio of carbon hydrogen oxygen (respectively)
