Hunger perhaps?

It is a matter of culture.

The Japaneese are highly dependant on seafood and concider whales and dolphins just another species of fish. People living in Iceland have to also rely heavily on the sea for their food. For them, it is a matter of getting enough to eat. Dogs are found in every culture, but only in countries with British origins are these animals treated as though they were actually human. In most other cultures, dogs are nothing more than living alarm systems. The US, Britian and Australia have little to say officially about whale hunting because this practice does not influence their economies in any significant fashion. Modern nation states are not based on ethics but are mearly economic entities.

well actually the amount of whales these countries take are a threat to their survival. not only do they have to deal with rising ocean temperature, changing food sources and changing water acidity, they also have to deal with bone heads to want to hunt them. these countries are hunting some of the ENDANGERED whales. how can someone possibly say that its ok? and saying that its a matter of getting enough to eat is BS too. the european countries have had a moratorium on eating these whales for years until now, and obviously the people didnt starve. my guess for why none of the other countries have stopped them is for political stability. although i know the people of these countries may not be represented by the government. the people of australia have been very supportive of sea sheperd, who launches out of australia to fight japanese whalers who go into a marine SANCTUARY to hunt! also everyone i know opposes the seal hunt strongly ( im from canada) but our government pretends like its all good. soo lammmeee

A can of tuna :$1.35
A super-cargo container ship full of Japanese eletronics: $1.1 billion

Maybe if you weren't in such dire need of foreign imports, the US would embargo those countries for what i like to call "the annoying Rosie O'Donnell of the sea." the vast majority of the world would rather have a plasma TV than another species of dolphin, that is why the US, the UK, and the Aussies sit by and watch this unfold on their Asian-produced TV or gripe about it on their Asian-priduced computer.

Money tradition and money...think 50 years back....one whale is great, and then very hard work....now you can have whale lots saver and easier. I am against but consider, what should the US do??? lock the whales up...they move all over the worlds oceans when migrating...or declare war?? Preassure is hard to bring to bear...the worlds economic leading countries include japan....develop cheap synthetic whale meat...

The Japanese claim that they are only killing those animals as part of scientific study to find ways to help the whale population increase as their way of saving whales. How do you argue against that?

The amount of whales these few nations take is not a threat to their survival. It is not worth starting a war over. These countries do not have massive amounts of farmland like we do, they are dependant on seafood.
