yes it is but its also a mineral in the body and is essential to good health.Approximately 50% of total body magnesium is found in bone. The other half is found predominantly inside cells of body tissues and organs. Only 1% of magnesium is found in blood, but the body works very hard to keep blood levels of magnesium constant

Yes, it is a metal. It is found on the left side of the periodic table, and when it reacts, it forms a cation. Also, pure magnesium has all of the other standard properties of a metal.

that's a metallic, and it is going by maximum reactions a metallic would. as an party, it reacts with acid to grant a magnesium salt and hydrogen that's likewise from crew 2 of the periodic table, and crew a million and a couple of aspects are continuously metals :D

Magnesium is a metal.

Yes, it is in group 2 so is an alkaline earth metal and is NOT a transition element.
It has an atomic number of 12. The electrons are arranged in this order..:- 2, 8, 2.

I hope Dr John didn't get his doctorate in Chemistry...Aluminium is most definitely a metal too. Its atomic number is 13 (2,8,3) and is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust but only as an ore (mainly bauxite).

Will whoever gave the thumb down please explain why...or is it that you don't like it that I'm right?

Yes....!! You can find that in the periodic table magnesium is inthe 2nd group and which is a part of metal section of the table.

Yes - its a metal.

Its in Group 2 - alkaline earth.

Also, to settle the argument, ALUMINIUM IS NOT A METALLOID.

Some people think aluminium is a metalloid as it forms amphoteric oxides, but for an element to be called a 'metalloid' it has to satisfy more than just that feature.

Currently, the IUPAC classes Aluminium as a Metal.

Yes although if you are an old fart like me you would call it a "rare earth" element
aluminium isn't a metal though it's a metalloid ( acts like a metal) !

"you then have transition elements some of which are referred to as transition metals
group 3 contains metaloids

-ium ending implies metal

Afallon says

ANY SCHOOLBOY TEXTBOOK WILL TELL YOU THAT ALUMINIUM IS A METALLOID AND IS NOT A METAL ; IT IS IN GROUP 3

Whilst physicists and geologists might consider it a metal CHEMICALLY IT IS NOT

No wonder wonder our children are so badly educated if you are teaching them these inexactitudes

Mg is an alkaline earth or group 2 metal
Al is a metalloid it is a group 3 element
