Ok I was trying to explain this to my friend who is in differential equations, but i couldn't remember how to exactly do it myself.

The problem looks like it should be super easy

y" + 2y' + y = e^x

I know you have to find the solutions of the homogeneous part, which would be y(x)=ce^x (its a double root when you work it out)

But the problem i can't remember is how to figure out the "particular" solution. Could somebody refresh my memory on this?

Paul invites 10 couples to a party at his house. He asks everyone present, including his wife, how many people they shook hands with. It turns out that everyone questioned--he didn't question himself, of course--shook hands with a different number of people. If we assume that no one shook hands with his or her partner, how many people did Paul's wife shake hands with? (Remember, Paul did not ask himself any questions)

ok so there was an earthquake in South Bay Area today yesterday and my mom was running for the door frame with my sister and I ran out and told them to just hurry up and get under the table because the table was right behind them.

so i was wondering what was the best place to stay at? would it be under the table? door frame? or just running outside? i know it would probably be best to do whatever is close to you but in some circumstances what would be better?

is it true that in strong earthquakes running outside would be bad because the road would start to split in half?
